Taking in the view from the canon on the North Ridge of Tryfan, Snowdonia, North Wales.

My name is Dave, I’m a research scientist working as a postdoctoral research associate here in the UK.

Having lived in Wales for the past 25 years ( a significant proportion of my 29 years) I grew up walking in the hills and mountains of North Wales. This lead to a passion for  rock climbing (both bouldering and trad/sport climbing). Over recent years this has lead to several alpine mountaineering expeditions taking on some of of the classic alpine peaks in France and Switzerland.

I’m also a very keen amateur photographer. These days my photography is mainly landscape but my passion for photography started with nature and wildlife.

This blog is going to be a bit about all of these hobbies and about my work as a scientist working as part of a world leading research group. But this blog is also going to be about dealing with sight loss. In 2010 I was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy a degenerative eye condition that leads to the loss of central vision.
